Client-Focused Prenatal Care
Prenatal care plays a crucial role in pregnancy and birth outcomes. Consistent, patient-centered care leads to better results. At Austin Area Birthing Center, we prioritize both maternal health and autonomy, ensuring our prenatal care is holistic and client-focused.
How long are the prenatal care appointments?
Prenatal care appointments at Austin ABC are usually 30 minutes long. The first appointment may be longer so we can gather all the history relating to your pregnancy and reproductive health.
You spend the entire appointment time with the midwife, who will be your primary care provider at the birth center.
Subsequent prenatal care appointments include:
- Checking progress in the pregnancy
- Conducting necessary assessments
- Monitoring blood pressure
- Measuring the belly to determine the baby’s growth
- Listening to the baby’s heartbeat
We will also prescribe and follow up on relevant lab tests and scans to monitor your pregnancy.
How often will I be seen?
The usual appointment schedule for every mother is:
- Early pregnancy: every 4 weeks
- Third trimester: every 2 weeks
- Last few weeks of pregnancy: Weekly
- Week 41-42: every couple days
Some mothers may require more appointments depending on their needs.
How is our care different?
At Austin Area Birthing Center, we have a team-based approach to midwifery care. This enables our professional staff to benefit from their colleagues’ experience and insights; which results in better and safer care provision.
From the beginning, Austin ABC has created a diverse mix of midwife professionals. Our team comprises Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) and Certified Professional Midwives (CPM). This ground-breaking blend of different types of midwives has resulted in a lower transport rate and increased client satisfaction. It is what makes AABC unique in Central Texas and is one of the reasons we have remained so popular.
Another unique aspect of our care is we focus on Centering Group Prenatal Care. Centering Group Prenatal Care combines traditional one-on-one checkups with group sessions focused on education and peer support. This approach provides expected families with personalized midwifery care while fostering connections and offering valuable insights through group discussions.
Relationships with Allied Health Professionals
Austin ABC also benefits from working relationships with other Austin birth professionals. For example, thanks to our affiliation with the maternal-fetal medicine doctors at Access Physicians, we can offer onsite ultrasounds at both of our locations.
Our work is focused on providing our clients with the best experience during their birth journey. If you want to learn more about our care, please get started now!
