At Austin Area Birthing Center, we provide comprehensive care for people at every stage of their lives. One of our most essential services is the annual well-person visit. Similar to the services you’d expect from a primary care doctor or OB/GYN, this visit focuses on keeping you healthy and addressing concerns.
What to Expect at Your Annual Visit
We aim to make every visit to our center comfortable and personalized.
When you arrive, we’ll begin with some paperwork and a quick check of your weight and vitals. After that, we’ll dive into your health history, discussing any recent updates, changes, or concerns.
What Does the Physical Exam Include?
We’ll check your blood pressure, listen to your heart and lungs, and check your thyroid levels. For some patients, we may also conduct breast and/or pelvic exams.
We offer additional lab work and can provide referrals for specialized screenings such as ultrasounds, mammograms, or colonoscopies to catch potential health issues early.
Once we’ve completed the exam, we’ll talk through additional lab work or schedule follow-up visits for screenings.
Can You Prescribe Birth Control?
Yes, we can! We understand that family planning is an essential part of your healthcare journey. In addition to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care, we offer various birth control options during your annual exam. These include birth control pills, NuvaRing, patches, and intrauterine devices (IUDs). We also provide counseling on barrier methods such as condoms and diaphragms.
On the other hand, if you want to start a family, you and your partner can receive preconception counseling at our birth center.
