List of Services

We offer safe, affordable, quality care throughout your pregnancy, including lab work, routine prenatal visits, and caring communication. Labor and delivery takes place in our beautiful birthing rooms. Our fees are often a quarter of those charged in a traditional hospital/doctor setting. We accept payment directly from most insurance plans. Please contact our office for more information. Interested clients are invited to sign up for a free one-hour tour and interview with one of our midwives. During this time you will have an opportunity to discuss any aspect of midwifery, pregnancy and the Austin Area Birthing Center (AABC) with us. AABC also provides annual well-woman exams, Pap smears, birth control, and pre-pregnancy counseling, all at reasonable rates. First time mothers are required to take childbirth preparation classes. We recommend the Bradley Method and we have names of various instructors in the Austin area.

Pre-Natal Care
Prenatal care is an important part of any birth. The first visit includes a complete physical assessment, medical history, and blood work. Subsequent visits occur at monthly intervals until the seventh month, increasing to bi-monthly until the ninth month. Finally, weekly prenatal visits in the last month provide close contact leading up to the delivery. The following indicators are carefully monitored at each visit:

WeightUrinalysisBlood pressurePosition of infantPulse
NutritionEmotional statusFetal heart tonesExercise
Fundal height (size of uterus)
Background reading materials are also provided on a range of important pregnancy issues. Clients are required to attend classes in the Bradley Method of natural childbirth to prepare for their birth at the center. Ultrasounds are readily available when indicated or upon client request

Following the Birth
After the birth you will be given your baby to hold. The baby will never leave your room. Newborn examinations, foot-printing, etc. are done beside you on your bed. You will be given as much privacy as you feel you need to touch, cuddle, admire, and inspect your newborn infant. You will be assisted with breast-feeding and given important postpartum instructions. The majority of our clients return home within 6 hours of delivery..
