The Austin Area Birthing Center has over 23 years experience assisting mothers in natural childbirth in a safe, nurturing and relaxing environment. Our statistics have remained constant throughout our years of operation and confirm our success.
As medical intervention in the birth process continues in hospitals around the country, the c-section rate has climbed to an all-time high, with nearly 1.2 million c-sections performed in 2004 accounting for 29.1 percent of all births that year, according to the Center for Disease Control's National Center for Health Statistics.
This rate has increased for all births, even those of healthy, first-time pregnancies with a full-term, single child, according to the NCHS.
"The opportunity to birth normally is becoming increasingly rare in many hospitals in both the United States and abroad," says Christiane Northrup, M.D., who was the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the Coalition for the Improvement of Maternity Services and an expert in the field of obstetrics. " In fact, some hospitals now have C-section rates of over 50 percent. We forget that a C-section is major surgery that can have major complications."
"Normal birth is one of the most empowering, life-changing experiences a woman can have," Northrup says. "But because of the atmosphere of fear and misinformation that pervades modern hospital obstetrics, and the minds of women throughout the world, the birth experience is being profoundly altered for millions. Normal birth remains the gold standard."
At AABC, we are specialists at keeping birth normal and our statistics prove that our clients have the support and experience they need to have a healthy and happy birth experience.
AABC's statistics are indicative of the success that comes from years of experience helping mothers trust their bodies and birth naturally, whenever possible.

In 2009 AABC had 12 vaginal births after previous C-sections and 11 were successfully
delivered at AABC without transport or complication for a success rate of 92%.
